One man is dead after an exchange of gunfire during an attempted robbery inside a University District home Friday morning.
Terrence Lester, 27, was shot inside his home in the 100 block of Dunlop Avenue, between Parkridge and Comstock avenues, said Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson. Lester was pronounced dead in Erie County Medical Center.
Homicide detectives, meanwhile, are seeking Kyson Romer, 23, for questioning in the case. They did not call him a suspect. Romer is described as a black male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is asked to call Buffalo homicide detectives at 851-4466.
Police said they responded to the Dunlop Avenue home just after 9 a.m. Friday to investigate the report of a shooting and interviewed an eyewitness.
A man who knew Lester came to the door and tried to rob him, according to police.
Lester told the robber he would get what he wanted, but the victim then went for his own gun and the gunman shot Lester in the back, police said.
Lester returned fire as the man ran from the house, police said. The suspect may have been wounded during the exchange.
"We're looking for a suspect right now that may be shot," Gipson said.
