Hearing set on lease of School 84 to city

A public hearing has been scheduled on a new county law to let the Buffalo Board of Education lease School 84 on the campus of Erie County Medical Center.

School 84 has been decaying and caught in a squabble between state and local officials. City and county leaders want the state to modernize the school, formally known as the Erie County Health Care Center for Children. But state education officials want the children who go there mainstreamed into traditional schools.

The Legislature has approved a law to let the city School Board lease the school, making it eligible for the State Reconstruction Project Itinerary. The public hearing on the law will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in County Executive Joel A. Giambra's conference room on the 16th floor of the Rath County Office Building, 95 Franklin St.
