We've been getting a look at what Michael Ludwig can do as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's concertmaster. Next weekend, Buffalo will get to check out his chops as violin soloist.
At 10:30 a.m. next Friday and at 8 p.m. April 14, Ludwig will be the soloist in Sarasate's flamboyant "Carmen" Fantasy. He could hardly have chosen a more marvelous vehicle for his talents. Based on Bizet's colorful opera, the "Carmen" Fantasy takes the audience through the "Toreador Song," the fiery "Habanera" and other hits from the opera, with all kinds of virtuosity in between. It's a true tour de force, a dream for anyone who loves the violin.Completing the concert are Chausson's "Poeme" and Dvorak's Symphony No. 7. Music Director JoAnn Falletta conducts. Admission is $21 to $47 for next Friday's concert, and $18 to $70 for the concert April 14. For more information, call 885-5000.
