Road game for Niagara

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Just heard that Siena, which is only about 4 hours away in Albany, is sending five busloads of students here for tonight's MAAC final against Niagara. The Arena at Harbor Yard will be a green-and-gold festival cheering on the Saints, so this one is going to be a virtual road game for NU. Hard to imagine too many Niagara fans getting here on short notice, even for a 9 p.m. start.

Best fan moment last night came when the couple dozen Niagara N-Zone students here started taunting the Marist fans with chants of "N-I-T, N-I-T" and a couple other shots near the end of the top-seeded Red Foxes' semifinal loss to Siena. Three full sections of red-clad Marist fans, most standing, responded in full-throated unison, "You wear pur-ple, you wear pur-ple."

Everyone in the place howled. Even the Niagara kids were laughing.
