Man at mailbox struck in weather-linked crash

LITTLE VALLEY -- Snow-covered roads contributed to an accident involving a Jeep and a pedestrian checking his mailbox early Saturday morning in Little Valley, Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputies reported.

Angela Kula, 24, of Allegany, was traveling south on Route 353 at about 7:45 a.m. when she lost control of her vehicle on snowy roads. Her Jeep slid across the road, striking a mailbox and Merle E. Burger, no age listed, of Little Valley.

Kula was uninjured. Burger suffered a minor head injury and was taken to WCA Hospital, Jamestown, for treatment.

No charges were filed.

Police probing robbery at Welland gas stop

WELLAND, Ont. -- Niagara Regional Police are asking for the public's help in trying to find the man who robbed the Pioneer Gas Bar at 4:40 a.m. Saturday.

The man showed a large knife and took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. Anyone with information can call the Detective Office at (905) 735-7811, Ext. 3317.

Three men, woman face drug, weapons charges

BATAVIA -- Four Batavia residents are facing various felony drug charges following a raid Friday at a Town of Batavia house, authorities in Genesee County reported.

Larry L. Watts, 31, and Johnny L. Watts, 26, were both apprehended at the residence on 8900 Creek Road that was raided Friday. Johnny T. Shannon, 48, and Yvonne Watts, 50, no address listed, were tracked down by police traveling in a vehicle nearby. The four were being held on charges of possessing drugs, drug paraphernalia and weapons, authorities said. Bail was set at $30,000.

State troopers, Genesee County sheriff's deputies and Batavia police officers found quantities of crack cocaine and heroin inside the house along with two scales, a switchblade knife and several double-edged daggers, police said.
