>Slippery road leads to crash, injuries

WESTFIELD -- A one-vehicle crash Monday afternoon sent two Findley Lake residents to the hospital.

Walter Hyde, 64, was traveling south on Westfield-Sherman Road when he lost control of his vehicle on slippery pavement while rounding a curve, according to Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies.

Hyde's vehicle left the roadway on the east side and went into a ditch.

He and his passenger, Catherine Summerville, 60, were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. No charges have been filed.

>Knifepoint robbery brings 12-year prison term

LITTLE VALLEY -- Kyle E. Miller, of Weston Mills, was ordered Tuesday by Cattaraugus County Judge Larry M. Himelein to spend the next 12 years in state prison on his conviction for a knifepoint robbery of a UniMart on Wayne Street in Olean on Oct. 31, 2005.

Cattaraugus County District Attorney Edward M. Sharkey said a store clerk was threatened with a knife as the register was ransacked.

Five years ago, Miller served a brief prison term for sexually abusing a 14-year-old child. In that case, Miller pleaded guilty to an attempted second-degree sodomy charge.

>Man forced into car, robbed and shot at

A 45-year-old Clinton Street man was forced into a car at gunpoint Monday night, shot at and robbed, police reported.

The victim was forced into a Cadillac by three men armed with handguns at about 8 p.m. at Clinton and Jefferson streets, police said. The assailants drove him around and stole his identification, fur hat and gloves. When the victim got out of the vehicle on Swan Street, police said, the gunmen fired several shots at him, all of which missed.
