Pizza man's complaint leads to bogus money

NIAGARA FALLS -- Niagara Falls police seized more than $150 worth of counterfeit U.S. currency at a downtown hotel Friday after a pizza deliveryman lodged a complaint.

Police, who traced the bogus bills to a woman staying in the Ramada Inn hotel on Rainbow Boulevard, discovered 14 $10 bills and two $5 bills in her possession. Police said the woman told officers she had already made "numerous" small purchases with the money she had received as a payment from a man.

Police, who said the bills had the same serial numbers, are continuing the investigation.


Falls police seek girls, boys in 2 gang attacks

NIAGARA FALLS -- Niagara Falls police are investigating two gang assaults that occurred Friday.

A 13-year-old girl was attacked by two girls about 2:50 p.m. at 27th Street and Woodlawn Avenue, where she was knocked to the ground and kicked in the face, police said. The victim, whose earring also was ripped from her ear, was treated in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, police said. The two assailants are being sought by Juvenile Bureau detectives.

Shortly before midnight, four boys attacked two teenage girls leaving Regal Cinemas on Builder's Way, police said. The victims, who were punched and kicked, were both treated in the emergency room of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, police said.


Police nab suspect in garage break-ins

NIAGARA FALLS -- Niagara Falls police believe they have caught a man responsible for a recent spate of garage break-ins, including two on Friday.

Luis M. Rodriguez, 26, of Whitney Avenue is charged with third-degree burglary and third- and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was arrested after a foot chase Friday morning, when he was spotted inside a neighbor's Whitney Avenue garage.

Police said a Pierce Avenue garage also was broken into Friday morning, although nothing was removed from a car that had been ransacked.


Two men hop from car, rob pedestrian near home

NIAGARA FALLS -- Two men emerged from a car early Saturday and robbed a Third Street man a block away from his home, police said. The victim was walking south in the 400 block of Third Street when a sport utility vehicle stopped, police said. The robbers fled with $15 in cash, police said.


Fort Erie man, 18, held in knifepoint robbery

FORT ERIE, Ont. -- Niagara Regional police arrested a Fort Erie man overnight Friday after he allegedly robbed an acquaintance at knifepoint.

Brandon J. Stewart, 18, was charged with robbery and weapons possession.

Authorities said Stewart allegedly went to the victim's home on Forsythe Street and held a knife to the person's throat while demanding money. Two friends of the victim who witnessed the incident fled the scene.

The assailant then left with unidentified property taken from the home. The victim was not injured.

The incident was reported to police and several hours later Stewart was arrested and the stolen property was recovered.
