Mary T. Woods of Angola, who was honored for being a foster parent, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Hospital. She was 77.
Born in Elmone County, Ala., the former Mary T. Lucas graduated from Birmingham High School in Alabama. She moved to Western New York in 1953.
Mrs. Woods went back to school in 1996, completing courses to become a licensed foster care provider for Randolph Child and Adolescent Services, where she and her husband, Paul, were named Foster Parents of the Year in 1997.
She was active in the missionary society at First Baptist Church in Lackawanna and was on the board at Community Baptist Church. She joined Friendship Baptist Church in 1991.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, Mrs. Woods is survived by seven daughters, Gwendolyn Eckles, Flora B. Woods, Paulette Woods, Theresa Woods, Darline Imes, Linette Ingram and Vendetter Boddie; three sons, Duane, Vincent and Raynard; three sisters, Daisy Dotson, Della Kirksey and Seria Johnson; and a brother, Charles Lucas.
A funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday in Friendship Baptist Church, 204 Clinton St.
