Ophelia V. Kirksey, 88, of Buffalo, died Dec. 15 in Niagara Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, eight months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Born and educated in Columbus, Miss., she married Clarence Kirksey in 1942, and they moved to Buffalo three years later. He died in 1971.
Mrs. Kirksey worked at various laundries before retiring as a housekeeper 10 years ago.
She was a member of Refuge Temple Church of God in Christ, where she played the piano. She also tended to her houseplants and dogs.
She is survived by a daughter, Ceuntia Carter; and a sister, Queen Esther Jones.
Services were held Dec. 20 in State Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 234 Glenwood Ave.
