Milton H. Burckhalter, a farmer and retired boilermaker who was long active with the Erie County Agricultural Society, died Saturday in his Orchard Park home. He was 79.
Born in West Seneca, Mr. Burckhalter attended Trinity Lutheran Day School and was a graduate of Orchard Park High School.
He was a member of Boilermakers Local 7, working 25 years for Oldman Boiler Works. He retired in 1989.
He also was an Orchard Park farmer for more than 60 years, growing vegetables and other produce.
Mr. Burckhalter was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Seneca and served as Sunday school treasurer for 30 years.
Long active with the Erie County Agricultural Society, Mr. Burckhalter received the "Hall of Fame" award in 2000 from the Erie County Fair for his many years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Bernice Maue; three daughters, Sandra Gertis, Robbin Blajszczak and Roxanne Sheehy; and one brother, Elmer.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 6 in Trinity Lutheran Church, 146 Reserve Road, West Seneca.
