Lessons and Carols

St. Andrew's University Heights Church, 3105 Main St., will offer a New Year's Eve Lessons and Carols in the tradition of King's College of Cambridge at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The service will include readings by prominent members of the community, including Vincent Clark, University at Buffalo director of community relations; Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson; State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo; Florence Johnson, president of the Buffalo Board of Education; Dorothy Johnson, executive director of the Buffalo Control Board; and Lynn Marinelli, chairwoman of the Erie County Legislature.


Weekend retreat

The Rev. John Mergenhagen will lead an annual contemplative weekend retreat Friday through Jan. 7 at the St. Columban Center, 6892 Lakeshore Road, Derby. Cost of the retreat is $130. Call 947-4708 for more information.


Nuzzi to speak

The Rev. Ronald Nuzzi, director of Catholic Leadership Programs in the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame, will deliver the keynote address at the Celebrate Catholic Education dinner at 6 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Adam's Mark Hotel.

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec also will present Bishop's Medals to Monsignor Francis G. Weldgen, Paul D. Bauer, Daniel R. Gernatt and Trocaire College for their efforts in support of Catholic education.


St. Ann celebration

Anyone interested in helping plan celebrations for the 150th anniversary of St. Ann parish at Broadway and Emslie Street in 2008 is invited to contact the St. Ann's Anniversary Reunion Committee.

Mormons to meet

The history of the Cattaraugus Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be reviewed and the future unveiled as part of a day of rededication beginning at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 7.

State President Stephen Free and Mission President Alan Layton will be the main speakers.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony at the Cattaraugus Branch Meeting House, 1526 Gowanda-Irving Road, Gowanda.


Come and See event

The Rev. John Kuhlman will offer suggestions on how to deal with big and little disappointments at the next session of Come and See at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. Benedict Catholic Church, Main Street at Eggert Road, Amherst. For details, call 834-1041.
