Willard S. Berg of Amherst, a graphic artist and photographer for the Buffalo Courier-Express, died Wednesday in Harris Hill Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was 77.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1948 graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School and attended the University of Buffalo for two years before serving in the Army. He was stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War.
Returning from service, he joined the Courier-Express, where he was a graphic artist and photographer until the paper closed in 1982. He continued to work as a freelance artist and photographer until he retired in 2002.
A member of Amherst Methodist Church, he was a past president of the Buffalo Aero Club and a member of Great Books and Gold's Gym. An avid walker, he was a familiar figure in Amherst.
His wife of 41 years, Sylvia Anne Fraser Berg, died in 2001.
Surviving are two sons, Erik F. and William A., and a daughter, Michele Berg Henriques.
