Isadore Weiss of Amherst, retired superintendent of mail for the Poughkeepsie Post Office, died Thursday in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga. He was 95.
Mr. Weiss, who was born in Gloversville, lived in Poughkeepsie between the ages of 7 and 93, when he moved to Buffalo to be near his son Sidney.
He graduated in 1929 from Poughkeepsie High School, where he was outstanding in football, basketball, baseball and track.
Mr. Weiss started as a clerk and became Poughkeepsie's superintendent of mail before he retired after 40 years with the Postal Service.
He was active in Temple Beth El in Poughkeepsie and was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels there until he was 90.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Karp Weiss, and another son, Howard.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Amherst Memorial Chapel, 281 Dodge Road, Getzville.
