Vince Gill is an old-school country musician in modern-day country clothes. Throughout his career, he has balanced commercial success with artistic tenacity, along the way making many of his peers look like chumps with his deeply ingrained musical virtuosity and consistently compelling songwriting flair.
Case in point is Gill's most recent release, the 43-song magnum opus "These Days," a four-disc set of all new songs written and recorded with an impressive list of musical collaborators and redolent of the multigenre melting pot that is Gill's art. The man can be as country as country gets, but clearly, he has listened to rock and pop music closely as well -- and jazz, bluegrass and folk are not likely strangers to him.
Next Friday, Gill comes to the Avalon Ballroom in the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, for a 9 p.m. show. He'll return on Saturday at the same time for a second performance. Tickets are priced $35 to $90 (Canadian funds), and are available now through Ticketmaster.
