Andrew L. Pyles, a General Motors retiree, died Monday in Erie County Medical Center, apparently of a heart attack. He was 79.
Born in Lauren, S.C., Mr. Pyles moved to the Buffalo area 50 years ago. He retired in 1992 from the Chevrolet engine plant in the Town of Tonawanda after 23 years. He worked on the assembly line.
He was a longtime volunteer for Crime Watch and the Community Action Food Pantry.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, the former Estelle Williams; six daughters, Kathy Herritage, Annette Colston, Earleen Adamson, Lynell Reed. Linda Breedlove and Inell; and two sons, Juan Breedlove and Alvin Breedlove.
Services will be at 8 p.m. today in Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1525 Michigan Ave., after a wake at 7.
