The Newfane School Board had expected to hire Newfane Middle School Principal Gary J. Pogorzelski as its new superintendent at a special meeting Wednesday.
But trustees got tied up reviewing his proposed three-year contract for more than two hours in executive session.
As a result, the board recessed the meeting until 2:30 p.m. today in Newfane Early Childhood Center, Godfrey Road. And board President Jamie Reineke said the deliberations could continue into Friday.
Reineke said reviewing the contract "is taking longer than we expected. We should make the appointment within the next week."
Pogorzelski was selected by the board from three finalists on Dec. 12. He will replace James N. Mills, who retired.
