A Mass of Christian Burial for Stanley J. O Bara, a longtime machinist and World War II veteran, will be offered at 1:30 p.m. today in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 24th and Niagara streets. Prayers will be said at 1:15 in Zajac Funeral Home, 319 24th St., Niagara Falls.
Mr. O Bara died Friday in Northgate Health Care Facility, North Tonawanda. He was 89.
Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. O Bara was a 1935 graduate of Trott Vocational School and was an Army veteran, serving as a machinist with the 11th Air Service Squadron in the East Indies, New Guinea and Papua. His work included making, modifying and repairing airplane parts. He rose to the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. O Bara worked as a machinist for Autolite, Alcoa Aluminum Co., Kimberly-Clark Corp., Union Carbide Corp. and retired from Lockheed in Sunnyvale, Calif., when he moved to North Palm Beach, Fla. He returned to the Niagara Falls area in 2000.
Mr. O Bara also served as a scorekeeper for local tavern baseball leagues.
Survivors include a sister, Genevieve Skurski.
