Augustine M. George, streets foreman Jan. 10, 1933 -- Dec. 25, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for Augustine M. "Gus" George of South Buffalo, a retired city Streets Department foreman, will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John Maron Catholic Church, 2040 Wehrle Drive, Amherst, after prayers at 9 in O'Connell Murphy Funeral Home, 2286 South Park Ave.

Mr. George died Monday in Mercy Hospital. He was 73.

Born in Buffalo, he graduated from Bishop Timon High School and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.

For 30 years, he worked for the City of Buffalo in the Streets Department. He retired as foreman in 1988.

Mr. George enjoyed playing cards, horse racing, casinos, computers, reading and going to the movies.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, the former Donna Szafranski; a daughter, Michelle George; and three sisters, Ann Tremblay, Rita Larson and Elaine Polito.
