Sister Kathleen McDonald, a teacher in parochial schools and a college campus minister, died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. She was 59.
Born in Buffalo, she attended All Saints School and Mount St. Mary Academy. A Sister of Mercy for more than 41 years, she entered the Community on Sept. 8, 1965, and professed her final vows July 30, 1968.
Sister Kathleen, formerly Sister Maureen Ann McDonald, received her bachelor's degree English from Canisius College and her master's in theology and liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame.
She taught in several elementary schools staffed by the Sisters of Mercy in the Diocese of Buffalo. She also was coordinator of the campus ministry team at Trocaire College, campus minister at Fredonia State College and Daemen College and a job readiness counselor at D'Youville College.
She was a patient relations representative at Mercy Hospital, pastoral associate at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and manager at the Julianna Apartments in Buffalo. At the time of her death, she was a pastoral visitor at Mercy Hospital.
She is survived by a sister, Maureen Hannon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 7 p.m. Thursday in Mercy Center Chapel, 625 Abbott Road.
