>First Princess Pageant seeking participants
NIAGARA FALLS -- The Miss Greater Niagara Princess Pageant is seeking applicants for its first competition.
The pageant is for babies and girls to age 12 and will be held Feb. 24 in the Niagara Falls High School Performing Arts Theater.
The entry form can be found online at the Miss Greater Niagara Web site, missgn.tripod.com/greaterniagara or requested by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This pageant is open to both American and Canadian residents. Entries must be postmarked by Feb. 15.
>Hamels elected to board of hospital foundation
WESTFIELD -- John P. Hamels, the outgoing superintendent of schools in Ripley, has been elected to the board of directors of the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Before becoming superintendent in 2002, he served 10 terms as president of the Ripley Board of Education. A member of the Chautauqua Leadership Network Class of 1996, he is active with many community groups.
Hamels was southern regional administrator for Erie 2 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Board of Cooperative Educational Services for six years. A graduate of Canisius High School, he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education at Buffalo State College and his doctorate in education at Walden University in Minnesota.
>Guild opens auditions for 'The Sound of Music'
NORTH TONAWANDA -- The Niagara Regional Theatre Guild will hold auditions for the last production of the 2006-07 season, "The Sound of Music," on Jan. 8 and 9.
The auditions will begin at 7 p.m. both days in the Riviera Theatre, 67 Webster St.
Auditions for adults 16 and older are scheduled on Jan. 8 and for children younger than 16 on Jan. 9.
Those auditioning should prepare a song. An accompanist will be provided. For information, call 622-1103.
