Jessie Mae Peace, church pioneer March 18, 1925 -- Dec. 20, 2006

Jessie Mae Peace of Buffalo, a pioneering churchwoman and American Linen Supply retiree, died Wednesday in Erie County Medical Center after a short illness. She was 81.

Born in Union, S.C., the former Jessie Mae Johnson was educated in the Union County school system. She worked as a folder more than 30 years for American Linen Supply in Buffalo before retiring in 1986.

Mrs. Peace was one of the first members of Mount Ararat Temple of Prayer, and was host to the first worship services in the living room of her home.

Her husband, Wallace P. Sr., died in 1987.

Survivors include three sons, Wallace, Ernest and Richard, and four sisters, Mamie Peal Barrett, Margie Norman, Sallie Ferguson and Gladys Mars.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Ararat Temple of Prayer, 971 Jefferson Ave., with a wake at 9:30.
