Elmer J. Sheppard, World War II veteran Aug. 18, 1926 -- Dec. 21, 2006

Elmer J. "Bud" Sheppard of Orchard Park, a Ford Motor Co. retiree and World War II veteran, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital. He was 80.

Known to friends and family as "Big E," Mr. Sheppard was born in Buffalo and was a graduate of South Park High School. He worked for more than 39 years for Ford's stamping plant in Woodlawn, retiring as a zone manager.

An Army veteran, Mr. Sheppard served in the 10th Armored Division under Gen. George Patton and also served in the occupation. He received the Bronze Star.

Survivors include his wife, the former Sara Knepper; four sons, Robert, Paul, Ronald and Philip; two daughters, Barbara Sheppard and Joan Visnesky; and a brother, Roy.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 4536 S. Buffalo St., Orchard Park.
