It's holiday time, and that means . . . well, several things, one of which is a "coming home" party for our own Dave Schulz, who left Buffalo a decade back for Los Angeles, and stints with the Goo Goo Dolls, the English Beat, and dozens of others.
All the while, Schulz has kept his "solo baby," C.O. Jones, alive. A funk-freak three-ring circus, that band has cemented its reputation as purveyor of a seriously sweaty brand of dance music that would surely make even George Clinton himself proud.
C.O. Jones, by dint of Schulz' hectic musical schedule on the other side of the map, has maintained a sort of protean form, as ever-shifting lineups of musicians come, party for a while, and move on. Regardless, the underlying freak-show ethic remains the same.
On Saturday, Schulz and C.O. Jones host "Holiday At the 'Hawk," a musical party kicking off at 9 p.m. inside Mohawk Place, 47 East Mohawk St. As ever, surprise (and surprised) guests will be in abundance, but expect a core group of musicians including, in addition to Schulz himself, Gretchen Schulz, Paul Campanella, Jerry Livingston, Tommy Z., Jeff Hermanson, Al Monti and Geno McManus.
