Roy D. Aures, veteran of two wars <br> Sept. 4, 1929 -- Dec. 20, 2006

Roy D. Aures of Cheektowaga, a veteran of two wars and a Sisters Hospital retiree, died Wednesday in ElderWood Health Care at Oakwood, Amherst. He was 77.

Born in Buffalo, he was a high school graduate and served first in the Army, then the Air Force, retiring in 1969 after 22 years in the military. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. He also was awarded the Purple Heart.

In 1995, Mr. Aures retired from Sisters Hospital, where he worked a variety of jobs, from parking lot attendant to maintenance supervisor.

Survivors include his wife, the former Linda Schott; a stepdaughter, Erika Schott; a stepson, Phillip Schott; and two sisters, Jean Scherrer and Dorothy Williams.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Smolarek Funeral Home, 2510 Union Road, Cheektowaga.
