A career performance by senior guard Shaunna Ambrose provided the Christmas gift the Niagara women's basketball team desired most Thursday afternoon.
A win, and a come-from-behind one at that, came before 377 fans at the Gallagher Center.
Ambrose scored 11 of her career-high 34 points in the final 4:41 to help the Purple Eagles rally for an 80-70 win over Marshall in a nonconference test.
With NU trailing, 67-63, Ambrose hit one of her career-high six three-pointers and sank two free throws to prevent the Thundering Herd from pulling away. Classmate Chantelle Wilson's trey with 2:10 left gave Niagara the lead for good, 71-70. Ambrose then added six more points in the final 46 seconds to help the Purple Eagles (8-4) enter their brief holiday break on a winning note.
Ambrose shot 9 of 17 from the floor and made 10 of 11 foul shots in 38 minutes. Wilson scored 16 points, while Michelle Manfredi had career highs of 14 rebounds and eight assists.
Niagara carries a two-game winning streak into its Dec. 29 game at Akron, which begins a three-game road trip for the Purple Eagles.
