Cleveland Indians pitching coach Carl Willis will lead an "advanced pitching academy" hosted by the Buffalo Bisons from Jan. 26-28 at Dunn Tire Park.

The academy is geared toward high school and college age pitchers, and will include video analysis, one-on-one sessions with Willis, and fitness tips from Bisons trainer Todd Tomzcyk.

Sessions will run 5-8 p.m. Jan. 26, 1-4 p.m. Jan. 27 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 28. Tuition is $135.

The Bisons will also hold a one-day hitting clinic with manager Torey Lovullo, 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 27. The cost is $30.

The Western New York Lady Hoosiers 10-under AAU girls basketball team won the Holiday Tournament last weekend at Nazareth College in Rochester.

The team went 4-0 and beat Midlakes in the championship game, 37-23, behind 14 points by Jennifer Green of South Buffalo and 10 points by Ciara Roslan of Cheektowaga.

Other team members at the tournament were Kayla Buczkowski of Cheektowaga, Awilda Murphy of Kenmore, Chelsie Carter of Cheektowaga, Mary Bamrick of Buffalo, Shannon Moran of Buffalo and Hannah Hanley of Kenmore.


Eileen McIver of Lockport captured the gold medal in individual foil fencing at the Bear's Challenge fencing tournament Dec. 12 in Cheektowaga, a regional event featuring competitors from Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse. Michael Licata of Getzville was runner-up to McIver.


BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: The Buffalo School of Baseball and Inferno Baseball will team up for a three-day baseball clinic for ages 8-13, Dec. 27-29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be a softball clinic with Molly McCarthy 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 27-28 and a baseball clinic for ages 4-7 on Dec. 27, 2-5 p.m. Call Rick Lancellotti at 681-9410. . . . HOCKEY: The Hockey Learning Academy will conduct a checking clinic 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Hockey Outlet, Niagara Falls Boulevard in Wheatfield.
