Sister Jean Catherine Larkin, a former teacher and school principal, died Wednesday in the Sisters of St. Francis Health Center at Stella Niagara. She was 82.
She was born Jean Catherine Larkin in Buffalo.
She entered the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara on Sept. 2, 1945, and made her profession of vows on Aug. 18, 1947. She was formerly Sister Thomas.
Sister Jean earned her bachelor's in education from Rosary Hill College in 1967 and her master's in administration from Niagara University in 1979.
She taught in elementary schools in Buffalo, Stella Niagara with the Cadet Department, at Our Lady of Lebanon in Niagara Falls and was the principal at St. Peter's School in Lewiston. She also taught at Bishop McMahon High School in Buffalo, and at schools in Ohio and New Jersey.
Sister Jean was the chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in Cheektowaga from 1987 to 1991.
She retired to Stella Niagara in 1991.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Sisters Chapel at Stella Niagara, 4421 Lower River Road.
