A memorial Mass for Rita Martel of Niagara Falls, a former events coordinator for the city's convention center, will be offered at 9 a.m. today in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1419 Falls St.
Mrs. Martel died Sunday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston. She was 68.
Born Rita Cuirczak in Niagara Falls, she attended local schools. During the 1950s, she was an Arthur Murray dance instructor.
Mrs. Martel ran her own catering service for 15 years and worked for Off Track Betting before becoming events coordinator for the Niagara Falls Convention Center.
She was a member of the board of the Echo Club, an active member of the Holy Trinity Church Mothers Club and a member of the Quo Vadis Society and the Ladies Auxiliary of Portage Post 1465, American Legion. She also was a longtime volunteer for the Niagara Falls Youth Bureau.
Surviving are her husband, Leo M.; two sons, Christopher M. Buchalski and Victor Buchalski; three daughters, Theresa King, Lorraine Parker and Cynthia Andrews; five stepsons, Dennis Martel, Leo M. Martel Jr., Matthew Martel, Michael Martel and Paul Martel; a stepdaughter, Renee Bechthold; and two sisters, Constance Baker and Toni Reece.
