>Deputies probing theft discover stolen car
ROYALTON -- Niagara County sheriff's deputies said they discovered a stolen car abandoned on Orangeport Road property Saturday morning after being called there to investigate a theft from another vehicle.
An unregistered Jeep being stored on the site by the property owner had been broken into overnight, and the keys and battery had been removed from the vehicle, deputies said.
While at the scene, they noticed a 2003 Grand Am owned by a Gasport woman that had been taken the night before from a nearby Berner Parkway residence. The victim had left the keys in the vehicle, police said.
>Two Falls garage fires probed as suspicious
NIAGARA FALLS -- Investigators are trying to determine what triggered two suspicious garage fires.
The garage behind a vacant home at 1152 Pierce Avenue burned for the second time in the past week, police said Sunday. The fire, which broke out shortly after midnight Sunday, resulted in minor damage.
Saturday morning, a couch was set fire outside a garage at 533 27th St., causing minor damage to the garage and an adjoining wooden fence. Police said they are investigating tips from neighbors who said overheard neighborhood residents bragging about setting fires recently.

NIAGARA FALLS -- A woman's purse was stolen at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of 19th Street.
The victim, an Ashland Avenue resident, told police a man approached her from behind, grabbed the purse and fled toward the City Market area. She chased him but was unable to keep up.
The purse contained $150 in cash and a credit card, police said.
Meanwhile, a woman told police that her purse was stolen Saturday afternoon while she dined in a Falls Street soup kitchen.
Th woman, an Ontario Avenue resident, said the purse was stolen at about 12:30 p.m. while a friend, who was guarding the purse, was distracted. The purse contained prescription medications and personal effects.
