Mary J. Herko, city employee <br> March 7, 1918 -- Dec. 11, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary J. Herko, a longtime Buffalo city employee and active churchwoman, will be offered at 10 a.m. today in Holy Apostles SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Clinton at Smith streets. Prayers will be said at 9:45 in Pietszak Funeral Home, 806 Clinton St.

A lifelong Buffalo resident, Mrs. Herko died Monday in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. She was 88.

The former Mary J. Klimeczko worked in the City of Buffalo assessor's office for 25 years, retiring as chief clerk in the late 1970s.

A parishioner of Holy Apostles SS. Peter & Paul Church, Mrs. Herko planned parties and cooked for parish functions. She was a member of the Bishop's Committee, Altar and Rosary Society and Steering Committee and worked bingo on Sunday nights. She also was a member of Queen of May Society Group 377.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Arthur A., and three sisters, Anna Wojciechowski, Irene Stahura and Dorothy Wojtulski.
