John D. Zaczek, a World War II veteran and retired Carborundum Co. employee, died Friday at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 82.
Born in Niagara Falls, Mr. Zaczek attended local schools and served during World War II in the Navy as seaman first class.
He worked as a laborer for Carborundum for 45 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Zaczek was a member of the Carborundum 25-Year Club and Portage Post 1465, American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Daisy Clarke; a daughter, Jeanette; and a sister, Sophie Butry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church, 1120 Niagara St. Prayers will be said at 10:45 in Labuda Funeral Home, 356 Portage Road.
