E. Jane Ayers, computer programmer <br> April 10, 1945 -- Dec. 16, 2006

E. Jane Ayers, a longtime Buffalo-area resident, died Saturday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. She was 61.

Born E. Jane Ryan in Buffalo, she was a 1966 graduate of Annunciation High School. She attended Medaille and Canisius colleges.

Mrs. Ayers worked as a computer programmer at Niagara County Community College from 1978 until 2001, when she retired. She taught at St. Margaret's School from 1972 to 1978.

She was a volunteer at Wilson Library, serving on its board of directors, and was active in its early childhood literacy programs.

Her husband, William J., died Oct. 6, 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Stewart and Nell; a son, Chris; and a brother, James D. Ryan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1029 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.
