Charles E. Webb resigned abruptly on Friday as president, CEO and executive director of the Erie County Industrial Development Agency after three years on the job, leaving a hole at the area's primary source of economic development incentives.
Webb's resignation was effective immediately. Plans for choosing a successor are not yet in place, so the ECIDA will be temporarily run by a management team, including Director of Business Development and Marketing John Cappellino, Chief Financial Officer Al Culliton and Controller Andrew Schoeppich.
They all will report directly to Dennis Penman, ECIDA board chairman and executive vice president of developer M.J. Peterson Corp.
"During his more than three years with ECIDA, Charlie has worked diligently to stimulate job growth and investment in Erie County," Penman said in a press release. "We wish him well with future endeavors."
Prior to ECIDA, Webb served as vice president at the Greater Cleveland Growth Association in Ohio.
The announcement was made after 5:30 Friday afternoon. Neither Webb nor Penman could be reached for comment.
