New appointment

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec of the Diocese of Buffalo has appointed a Polish priest to assist with several parishes in Chautauqua County.

The Rev. Jozef Dudzik will serve as parochial vicar at five parishes: St. Mary in Mayville, St. Isaac Jogues in Sherman, Our Lady of Lourdes in Bemus Point, St. Matthias in French Creek and Our Lady of the Snows in Panama.

Dudzik, who was ordained in 2000, served his home diocese in Poland for three years before moving to Germany where he worked with Polish immigrants.

He came to the United States in 2005 and served at St. Joseph's Basilica, a Polish shrine in Webster, Mass.

He is assisting the Rev. Bernard U. Nowak.


Masses offered

The Rev. Harry Winter will preside at the solemn Christmas Triduum Thursday through Saturday in the Carmelite Monastery, 75 Carmel Road.

Services each day of the Novena will begin with the saying of the rosary at 7 p.m., followed by a Mass.

Also, a Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered in the monastery at 11:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve, celebrated by the Rev. David Bialkowski.


Bless baby Jesus

St. Casimir Catholic Church, 160 Cable St. in Kaisertown, will offer its annual "Bless the Baby Jesus" during the 10:30 Mass on Sunday.

Everyone is invited to bring an infant Jesus figurine for a blessing.


Play presented

Zion Dominion Global Ministries, 895 North Forest Road, Amherst, will present "Wonderful Life," a play written and directed by Jerri Lynn Gilliam, featuring a gospel recording artist and local talent. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Dec. 24.

Christmas singing

Central Park United Methodist Church, 216 Beard Ave., will host a Christmas sing-a-long at 1 p.m. Sunday.


Christmas musical

New Covenant Tabernacle, 345 McConkey Drive, will present a multimedia performance of "The Gardener's Tale," a dramatic Christmas musical and dance, at 10 a.m. Sunday.
