Athletics upgrade approved by voters

LAKEWOOD -- A resolution on a $2.8 million upgrade to athletic facilities in Southwestern Central Schools was approved overwhelmingly Thursday, 662 to 119.

The Southwestern School Board put the project up for a vote after the Southwestern Schools Education Foundation agreed to pick up 22 percent of the cost -- the amount that won't be covered by state aid.

The project, which will not impact local taxes, includes an all-weather track, artificial turf football/soccer field and girls' softball field.
