*One of the neatest traditions that's developed in the Reggie Witherspoon years at UB is the way Bulls players and coaches head to the end zone after the final buzzer -- win or lose -- to listen to the pep band play the school's alma mater. The players do the work on the floor but it's great to see them acknowledge the work of the musicians and the student rooting sections in making Alumni Arena the area's best atmosphere. First class all the way around.
*More food for thought about embattled St. Bonaventure coach Anthony Solomon: The three teams he's beaten this year (Alcorn State, Central Arkansas and Central Connecticut) are a combined 4-20 against Division I schools and his four-year record of 20-72 includes just three victories over schools that finished their season with a winning record.
*The Canisius and Niagara women combined to go 12-3 in nonleague play and then both went 0-2 in their pre-Christmas MAAC games. Now they have to stew on being tied with Rider in the conference cellar until they play another league game Jan. 6.
