Anthony R. Panzica, police detective July 5, 1917 -- Dec. 8, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for Anthony R. Panzica, a retired Buffalo police detective, will be offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Main Street and Eggert Road, Eggertsville.

Mr. Panzica died Dec. 8 in La Mirada, Calif. He was 89.

Born in Rochester, Mr. Panzica was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He worked for the Buffalo Police Department for 30 years as a detective sergeant, serving in various precincts as well as the motorcycle squad and special fraud bureau. After retiring from the police department, he worked 10 years investigating credit card fraud for two local banks.

He has lived in California since the mid-1980s.

Mr. Panzica was a past president of the Romulus Club and the Buffalo Police Motorcycle Club; past exalted ruler of Lodge 148, Lancaster Elks; and a former member of Post 1038, American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, the former Orma Dorner; three sons, Anthony R. II, Raymond and Donald; and a daughter, Roseann Maher.
