Sister Yvonne Fournier, educator Oct. 16, 1917 -- Dec. 13, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Yvonne Fournier will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.

Sister Fournier died Wednesday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence. She was 89.

She served as the girls' supervisor and child-care supervisor at St. Mary's School for the Deaf from 1961 to 1993.

Born in Highgate Center, Vt., Sister Fournier entered her order in 1936 and earned a bachelor's in education at Mount St. Joseph's Teachers College. She professed her final vows in 1941.

After teaching French at Mount St. Joseph's and then at St. Mary's Academy in Dunkirk, Sister Fournier was assigned to St. Mary's Home in Dunkirk from 1943 to 1950. She served the next seven years at St. Joseph's Orphanage, then went on to Baker Hall in Lackawanna in 1957.

Survivors include three sisters, Lise Roberts, Gisele Poirer and Gilberte Fortin, and a brother, Real Fournier.
