A BENEFIT for the 1,100 striking employees at Dunlop Tire will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion Matthew Glab Post, 1965 Abbott Road, Lackawanna.

The strikers have been without wages for 10 weeks and are just now eligible to file for unemployment benefits. Some of the families are in dire need, especially at this time of year. In addition, they will lose their health benefits on Jan. 5.

Admission is $5 and includes one slice of pizza and a baked good. Children younger than 16 will be admitted free. A huge silent bid auction will be held, with drawings at 2. Music will be provided by Crash Cadillac. Santa will make an appearance between 11 and 1. For information, call Mark Quatraro at 874-2425.

BIG DOINGS -- Dining, drama and dancing will be featured on New Year's Eve at the Elmwood Lounge as Buffalo legend Joey Giambra cooks dinner and entertains with his nine-piece band.

Dinner begins at 8 p.m. with prime rib, Italian sausage, calamari/olive salad, eggplant parmigiana, tripe, hot stuffed peppers, capanatina, desserts and a bottle of red wine.

"West Side Stories, Pasta Fazool and All That Jazz" will begin at 9:15 p.m. as Giambra recreates the old days on the Italian West Side. Dancing will be from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. For reservations, call 829-9086.

RECENT GRADUATES from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio included Airman Shane D. Savage, son of Randy and Ann Savage of Corfu, and Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Melanie A. Winslow, daughter of Mark and Tina Winslow of Ripley.

Savage graduated this year from Pembroke Junior-Senior High School in Corfu. Winslow is a 2005 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School.
