>Voters approve $4 million for building renovations
Grand Island Central School District voters Tuesday approved $4 million building renovation project, 659-55.
The money will be used to make repairs on all of the district's schools and the bus garage, including work to replace two roofs and a districtwide upgrade of the telecommunications system.
The state-funded project will not cause an increase to the local tax levies of residents. State building aid will fund 71.5 percent of the project, and the rest will be covered by Expanding Our Children's Education and Learning (EXCEL) aid.
"It's important work that is definitely needed," said Superintendent Lawrence Zacher. The work will begin next summer.
