William E. Siegel, of the Town of Tonawanda, died Thursday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. He was 75.
Born in Amherst, Mr. Siegel was a 1949 graduate of Amherst High School and a member of its 1948 undefeated football team. He served in the Air Force Reserve, and his unit was activated during the Korean War.
Mr. Siegel worked for Frontier Oil Refinery, which later became Ashland Oil Refinery, retiring in 1984 as a machinist.
He was active in several civic organizations and was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eggertsville; a member and past commander of Alfred J. Jurek Post 1672, American Legion, of Swormville; and active in Queen City-C.G. Fox Masonic Lodge of Amherst; the Valley of Buffalo Scottish Rite; Ismailia Shrine; and the Amherst Shrine Club.
Mr. Siegel is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, the former Janet E. Burt; two sons, William R. and Thomas E.; a daughter, Patricia J. Mandeville; and a sister, Betty Ann Somerton.
Services were Monday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Eggertsville.
