Joan M. Mellenthine, a longtime teaching assistant, died Saturday in Waterfront Health Care Center after a lengthy illness. She was 76.
Born Joan M. MacMillan in North Tonawanda, she was employed as a teaching assistant in the Niagara Falls School District for 15 years.
Mrs. Mellenthine, who also lived in Tonawanda Towers in the City of Tonawanda and Wrobel Towers in Niagara Falls, was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls for many years, the church's Sunshine Club, and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Club.
Her husband, Carl, died in 1984.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia O'Bara and Sandy Thompson, and two sons, Lance and Kyle.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Wheatfield.
