Wolcott man is killed when tractor flips

ALMA -- A Wolcott man was killed at about 8:25 a.m. Wednesday when his tractor rolled over on a logging road a mile from Alma Hill Road.

James R. Wells, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Rex McIntosh ordered an autopsy by the Monroe County medical examiner's office in Rochester.

Wells lost control of the tractor on a steep downgrade near his camp, state troopers at Belvidere said. The tractor continued 200 yards down the slope before hitting a drainage pipe and flipping, pinning Wells beneath it, troopers added.


Jail visitation brings inmate drug charges

MAYVILLE -- An inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance Thursday when she returned to jail from visitation.

Erica F. Herman, 26, of Stockton, also was charged with attempting to bring the drug into the jail, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department.


Domestic dispute leads to charges against two

JAMESTOWN -- Two Eagle Street residents were arrested early Wednesday following a domestic dispute.

Jamestown police were called to 16 Eagle just before 6 a.m. after a report of a woman screaming. When officers arrived, they said, they interrupted a domestic assault in progress.

Nicholes Martin, 22, was charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration.

Officers reported finding a large amount of marijuana and cash in the apartment, and Martin was further charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

Meanwhile, Jamie Bennett, 23, was arrested on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. She also allegedly kicked a police officer and damaged a patrol car. She was further charged with criminal mischief, harassment and obstructing governmental administration.

While she was being processed in the city jail, officers also found a controlled substance on Bennett, and she was charged with possession.


Arraignments planned after indictments of 3

LITTLE VALLEY -- Arraignments are set Monday in Cattaraugus County Court for three people indicted in separate cases.

Jennifer L. Norgrove, 24, of Olean, faces charges of driving while intoxicated and driving without a license in May in the Town of Carrollton.

Courtney N. Kulczak, 20, of Otto, was indicted on charges of second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment May 20 in the Town of Otto when another person was struck.

Daniel J. Chiarilli, 38, of Machias, was indicted on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving without a license, unauthorized vehicle use and leaving an accident scene June 11 in the towns of Franklinville and Lyndon.
