Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York members can now use Lifetime Health Medical Group offices and doctors under an agreement reached between the two companies earlier this month.
Under the contract, which applies to the insurer's commercial, Medicare, Medicaid and self-funded businesses, Blue Cross and Blue Shield members can get both primary and specialty services at the seven Lifetime health centers and affiliated offices in Western New York.
The agreement, which came in response to requests by Blue Cross and Blue Shield members for more providers with medical care, lab services and pharmacy under one roof, adds 116 more doctors to the insurer's physician network.
The deal means Lifetime now has contracts with all three local insurers, where it used to be limited to Univera Healthcare. It reached a similar agreement with Independent Health Association in March.
Lifetime is an affiliate of Univera under Rochester-based Lifetime Healthcare Companies, parent of Excellus Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Excellus is a rival to HealthNow New York of Buffalo, which owns Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Western New York.
