A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary C. Roberts will be offered at 9:30 a.m. today in St. Margaret Catholic Church, 1395 Hertel Ave.
Mrs. Roberts died Saturday in her Buffalo home. She was 86.
Born Mary Connolly in Chester, Pa., she lived in this area since 1937. A Navy veteran of World War II, she served with the WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) as a pharmacist's first mate in Portsmouth, N.H. She was a member of Erie County Women's Post 1586, American Legion.
Mrs. Roberts was a 1953 graduate of Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, then was a partner in John E. Roberts Funeral Home, which was founded by her husband.
After his death in 1981, she continued the business with two of their children.
An active parishioner at St. Margaret Church, Mrs. Roberts received the St. Joseph the Worker Award from the Diocese of Buffalo in 2003.
A member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association, she was past president of Erie-Niagara Funeral Directors Association and Zonta Club of Buffalo.
Mrs. Roberts was a member of Buffalo Canoe Club, Business & Professional Women of Buffalo, Twentieth Century Club and North Park Business Organization -- the latter of which honored her in 1992 as North Buffalo Business Person of the Year.
Also a member of many Irish organizations, she served as grand marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1987.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Dobmeier and Jacqueline DiMaggio; three sons, John E. Jr., Michael W. and James J.; a sister, Margaret Dolan; and two brothers, John R. and Alvah Connolly.
