WHEATFIELD -- Margaret Stokes, a former oil company dispatcher, died Wednesday in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 80.
Born Margaret Kendrick in Detroit, she moved with her family to Philipsburg, Pa., when she was a child and attended school there. She moved to the Niagara Falls area in 1955.
Mrs. Stokes worked as a secretary and dispatcher for the former Weber Oil Co., Schrack Oil Co. and Simon Oil Co., all in Niagara Falls, until retiring in 1991.
Her family said she enjoyed knitting and watching football on TV with her "football friend," Ann Nicholas.
Her husband of 46 years, William L., died in 1992.
Survivors include three sons, William L. Jr. of Lewiston, Gerald of the Town of Niagara and Robert of Hawaii; two sisters, Maryann Wisor of Grassflat, Pa., and Bette Campbell of North Tonawanda; a brother, John Kendrick of Philipsburg; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. Burial will be in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.
