Dean of arts and sciences leaving UB for Indianapolis
The dean of the University at Buffalo's largest academic unit, the College of Arts and Sciences, is leaving UB for a position at a campus in Indianapolis.
Uday P. Sukhatme, dean of UB's College of Arts and Sciences since 2002, has been named executive vice chancellor and dean of the faculties at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, UB announced this week.
In a message to the campus community, UB Provost Satish K. Tripathi praised Sukhatme's leadership and noted that research expenditures and the number of tenured and tenure-track faculty in the college have risen over the past three years.
Sukhatme also introduced a poetry contest and a lecture series that were aimed at introducing the college to top high school students.
UB will conduct a national search for a new dean and soon will name an interim replacement, Tripathi said in the statement.
Great American Cleanup gets under way May 6
Volunteers are vowing to take spring cleaning to a new level when they kick off the annual Great American Cleanup on May 6.
Thousands of people are expected to take part in the crusade against litter and other community eyesores. They will converge on neighborhoods throughout the region, targeting vacant lots, parks, playgrounds and commercial districts. Some will plant gardens, while others will remove graffiti, pick up litter and even promote recycling.
Ten corporate sponsors are providing resources to the effort.
