Leland R. Allen of Springville, a retired health and safety inspector for the state, died Wednesday in TLC Tri-County Memorial Campus. He was 88.
A native of Dubois, Pa., he enlisted in the Army in 1945 and served during World War II as a private first class. He was discharged in 1946.
He was a member of Gowanda Post 409, American Legion, and was a 32nd-Degree Mason.
Mr. Allen was a pilot and once built his own plane. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, the former Lucille Crandall; a son, Robert of Endwell; a daughter, Jean Young of the Town of Tonawanda; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Collins Center Cemetery.
