Betty Turner, retired social worker March 1, 1934 -- March 26, 2006

Services for Betty Patterson Turner, a retired social worker at Buffalo Psychiatric Center, will be at noon Tuesday in Calvary Baptist Church, 1184 Genesee St. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.

Mrs. Turner, a native of Chicago, died Sunday in Erie County Medical Center after a long illness. She was 72.

She attended School 41 and graduated from Fosdick-Masten Park High School.

She earned an associate's degree from Erie Community College and a bachelor's degree in sociology from Medaille College.

Mrs. Turner was an administrative assistant at the psychiatric center at the time of her retirement in 1993. After her retirement, she worked as a receptionist at Community Music School in Buffalo until recently.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed travel. She visited 24 states, six Canadian provinces, four Caribbean islands and Mexico.

In 1988, she was named Woman of the Year by the Buffalo Chapter of the American Business Women's Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Mitchell of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Patrick O. Patterson of Buffalo; three sisters, Loretta Wright of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Rosalind Salter and Delores Hicks, both of Buffalo; and two grandchildren.
