Douglas F. Cleveland of the City of Tonawanda, a Vietnam veteran and retired truck driver, died of cancer Tuesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 57.
Born in North Tonawanda, Mr. Cleveland served two tours of duty as a Marine during the Vietnam War. He also served in the Army National Guard.
He was a member of Post 264, American Legion; Western New York Chapter 77, Vietnam Veterans of America; and the Disabled American Veterans.
He worked as a truck driver for various companies for more than 20 years, retiring in 1994.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, the former Sharon L. Carney; two daughters, Peggy Karre of the City of Tonawanda, and Cheri of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Leonard of the City of Tonawanda; a sister, Betty Kittinger of North Tonawanda; a brother, Edward of Youngstown; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Salem United Church of Christ, 114 Morgan St., City of Tonawanda. Burial is private.
